"Let a child🧒 be a child👧 for as long as he/she can be a child" Monja Boonzaier
Monja speaking 🔊 from the heart ❤️ to mother Maria after she saw how she wanted to put baby Linda (8 months) to stand when not ready, un- supported by herself yet . The process of transitioning to stand involves changes in the skeletal structure, muscle mass and relationship to the body 's centre of gravity and the ground.
A parent's tendency to interfere by making the baby stand takes away the opportunity for the baby to explore coping with balance and learning a new skill themselves. As Founding Director of HBF, I have been very fortunate to witness the satisfaction in a child's entire being when they learn to do something for themselves and by themselves. Over the past 7 months I have been part of this incredible process where in front of my eyes babies learnt to roll over, sat up, pull themselves up to stand and walking independently.
The sense of achievement (accomplishment) has an incredible impact on their self confidence and self -worth. Childhood self-esteem is linked to academic learning and socio- emotional health in adulthood.
