Strengthening Balance in a Child

Monja demonstrating with mother Busi how she can facilitate baby Minenthle's (who is now starting to learn to walk) balance system through stomping the feet šŸ¦¶ and walking sideways with the support of a chair to encourage her to feel her legs šŸ¦µ better and to enable weight shifting for walking. Monja also shared how climbing šŸ§—ā€ā™‚ļø onto/over/under objects helps to strengthen the balance system and is fun for children.

Balance is a process that steadily develops during the first 2 years of life and impacts young children's confidence, cognitive function and academic performance as they grow older. If young children are not given the opportunity to explore through movement, touch and play their balance system will be compromised. This is one of the reasons why HBF is encouraging Early Childhood Education from birth!
